While the vanilla version of the game can be incredibly glitchy, even by the standards of when it came out, its barebones design makes it the perfect sandbox for unique creations and interesting mods. Although there are thousands of them out there, there are some that shine a little brighter than others.
Updated April May 2, by Thomas Bowen: No matter how good a game is, there'll usually come a point when people stop playing it. It could be a few months after its release or, if it's a particularly good one, a few years. Ultimately though, good things rarely last forever. That isn't to say that a game's shelf-life can't be extended though and there are plenty of examples of titles remaining popular long after the initial hype that surrounded their releases has died down.
In many instances this is down to excellent dev support, although modders can also play their part as well. This is definitely the case with Arma 3, which has been able to hold onto a fairly sizable playerbase over the years thanks to the fantastic work of these often unsung heroes. DayZ is the classic survival simulation where players can fight AI zombies in single-player or multiplayer modes.
It's possible to freeze or starve to death, although most players tend to die at the hands of other players. You're given limited ammo in a huge map, and you never know if the player you run into wants to kill you for your loot or work together in order to survive. The DayZ mod introduced a lot of the mechanics found in the survival genre today, such as a food and temperature meters. It's a little crazy to think that were it not for Arma 3 and its dedicated modding community, the entire genre might look very different than it does today.
Yes, the game that started the battle royale trend began life as a mod for Arma III. The Playerunknown's Battle Royale mod eventually spun off into its own game, before Epic Games and Fortnite came out of nowhere to really solidify the popularity of what was then a fledgling and relatively obscure genre.

Windows optimizations. In-Game settings. Let's start with basic info: setting cpuCount, exThreads or most other parameters does nothing, they are correctly recognized and set by ARMA on it's own and exThreads overrides cpuCount anyway, so if someone says to set both then you know how much he knows about optimizing ARMA ;. The DayZ mod introduced a lot of the mechanics found in the survival genre today, such as a food and temperature meters.

This once again shows the effect the Arma 3 modding community has had on all of gaming and how far someone can go even if they're just starting out with a really good mod for a pre-established game. If Arma 3 wasn't around, who knows where modern gaming would be. Although rumors about a Metal Gear Solid remake continue to circulate, there's still no official word from Konami on whether such a project is actually in development.
While this will no doubt come as a disappointment to fans of Kojima's groundbreaking series, they can at least take some comfort in the knowledge that a remake of the game does exist in some capacity. The creator of the Arma 3 Metal Gear Solid mod put in a lot of meticulous detail with the modding tools they had at their disposal for this single-player adventure.
The AI can be a real pain, however, as the two games don't always match up in style. A lack of cover will lead to a number of resets, which, although plentiful, are not common enough that your progress will be hindered too badly.
Wasteland is one of the most prevalent mods in Arma 3 and is essentially just DayZ without the zombies. It boasts a huge map to explore in a multiplayer survivor simulation and plays out like an endless battle royale, allowing the player to respawn as many times as they want and do just about anything to survive. It is arguably the precursor to all modern battle royal games, including Player Unknown's Battleground.
Without the zombies, it is effectively a massively multiplayer experience where you fight to keep your character alive for as long as possible. Another cool mod for Arma 3 is the Turkish Guitar mod. Once installed and equipped, your character will sit down right where they are and play a little ditty on a Turkish guitar.
